Advising Overview
The Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) provides support to decentralized advising units in the academic schools and has teams dedicated to providing specialized advising to students who are on academic or scholarship probation or those who are seeking to continue their education in medical or law professional programs. In addition, OUE ensures that every student who enters UT Dallas as an exploratory major or who needs guidance finding their academic fit has access to an expert exploratory advisor.
The OUE oversees coordination of new student credit equivalency and college readiness support. Navigating the application of credit earned in high school or at another institution and identifying next steps as an incoming student can be overwhelming. Students can use the published AP, IB, and CLEP tables and review TSI requirements and relevant placement testing, like the ALEKS Math Placement, or reach out to Alejandra Chavez Franco for individual support ensuring a smooth transition.
During an academic journey, students may need to request an appeal for exception to academic policy to persist or receive support based on an extenuating circumstance. The Appeal for Exception to Academic Policy process is the means of petitioning for any special exception to existing policies. Prior to submission, students should ask their advisor about this option.
