Exploratory Advising
Exploratory Advising is for students who have either not decided on a major or those looking at a variety of major options.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide comprehensive and proactive academic advising to students who are exploring a variety of majors and careers. In cooperation with academic colleges and the Career Center, we will help students design a unique and meaningful college experience.
What We Do
It is important to realize that discovering your major is a process. Our office is ready to assist you in actively exploring and identifying a variety of majors to match your personal as well as career goals. We will also help facilitate a smooth transition to the appropriate school advising office once you have decided on a major.
Services and Programs
Academic Advising
Academic advisor that works with Exploratory-Undeclared majors as well as any student seeking to explore their major options. Will assist students in developing a plan including both academic and extracurricular that will meet their personal, educational and career goals.
Career Advising
In cooperation with the Career Center students have a designated career consultant that provides career counseling and testing. They will also help them match their interests and abilities with possible careers.
Career and Major Exploration
Pre Major-Advising
For continuing students who no longer wish to be in their current major, know which other major they want, but do not meet change of major requirements. Pre-major advising allows students to have a set advisor to assist in the registration process and ensure progress is aligned with change of major requirements.
There is no GPA or academic standing requirement for pre-majors.
Requirements for Pre-Major:
- Completed at least one semester at UTD
- Students are permitted to be “pre-major” for up to two semesters
- Over the maximum number of hours (>54) permitted for Exploratory-Undeclared
